Show Figure 145: Log wall section, Behunnin house, Spring City, c.1870. The Behunnin house is a typical example of American Anglo-Germanic log construction. The logs are hewn flat on the front and back, the top and bottom have been left round, and the gaps between the logs filled with chinking. fitted into this groove to produce a snug, gapless joint. Several distinctive types of corner notches are associated with structures which have fitted walls, most notably the full dovetail notch (figure 150), the double notch (figure 151), and the tongue notch (figure 152). 261 |
