(Include additions, alterations, ancillary structures, and landscaping if applicable) I O < g > O This house, very early for Spring City, is a well preserved example of tradition construction. The house has an asymmetrical three opening facade which fronts a basic double-pen floor configuration (see drawing). This is an unusual plan for Sanpete Couir The house was originally only the two front rooms which were only one story hi£; Around 1890 Allred dismantled the roof and extended the house to one-and-a-half stories and built a rear "ell." The double-pen plan with the assymmetrical facade is intriguing and illustrates one of a number of vernacular forms utilized by Sanpete settlers. The Allreds were originally from North Carolina. David Harden Allred was born ii 1825 as the family moved through Farmington, Befored County, Tennessee. David was the son of William and Sarah Warren Allred. The house has remained in the David Allred fami' since the 1860's. Allred 1 s family were wealthy planters who joined the Mormon Church in its early days and traveled with the Church through Missouri and Illinois. The family came to Utain 1861, arrived in Spring City, August 27, 1861, and located immediately on this town Ic Allred was a Black Hawk veteran, active in the LDS Ward, and member of the city council. |
