Show enough to be confusing at such a small scale, I used a slightly larger scale: 1 inch equals 8 feet. For all but one of the more detailed roof system drawings I used the scale: inch equals 4 feet. In the drawings, there has been no attempt to denote materials. This information will be provided in the accompanying captions. When used, elevations have been intended to convey principles of massing and variation and have not been considered to be faithful renderings of particular buildings. Solid lines throughout indicate the original section of structures that have been altered. No attempt has been made to distinguish between the chronology of subsequent alternations, though the sequence of addition is often clear in the width of walls and the placement of attached rooms. In several cases, later additions were not completely measured and are simply depicted by a single undifferentiated line. Also, I have used an arrow,4---, to show the location of stove flues. In all cases, the front of the house plan is found facing the bottom of the page. 26 |
