Baxter, Sr., had worked in the coop store for a nusiber of years but became disatisfied and decided to branch out on his own. His first store was located in one room of the adobe house vMch, originally he built on this lot. The stone store was constructed in the early 1880's. Baxter later teamed with Robert Blain and the business was known as Baxter and Blain ifercantile. Upon Baxter's death, the store was acquired by his son-in-law, Claren Schofield, and called Schofield iferc. The store is now avned by a non-resident and used only for storage. |
