Show American and the Fourth Ward was decisively Scandinavian, with Danes, Swedes, and Norwegians totalling more than 68% of the households counted. Ephraim was certainly the most Scandinavian of the Sanpete towns. Of the 245 occupied households in 1870, 168 (69%) were Danish, 30 households (12%) were Swedish, and 14 (6%) were Norwegian. There were only 33 non-Scandinavian households, these being roughly equally divided between British and American Saints. The town of Wales, true to its name, was a town of Welsh immigrants. In 1870, there were only 16 families residing here, but 10 were from Wales while another 4 were from England. There were only two American-born families. The other towns--Chester, Fairview, Fountain Green, Moroni, Mount Pleasant, and Sterling--more or less display the percentages found in Manti--three main groups continued to be British, American, and Scandinavian. The following list of the nationality of Spring City's households in 1870 perhaps best illustrates the diversity of the Sanpete population.
