The design is typical and whila somewhat modest; this was an attractive dwelling for the average resident. The locally famous Scandinavian storemason Jens "Rock" Sorensen, helped build the house. Clifford McKinney, a nwighbor who lives across the street north, says that -a small cabinet shop used to stand on the lot prior to the building of this house. : Peter Justesen declared ownership to the lot and received the Mayors deed in 1876. Justesen moved out toward Chester (building a storehouse still visible on the Chester Road, just west of U.S. 89), and sold the lot in 1877 to Matilda Olsen for $400. Ms^t Olsen's daughter and wife of Judge Jacob Johnson inherited the house lot in 1893. James W. Blain buys the place in 1913 and it has remained in the family. The house could have been built in the early '70's by Justesen. This would account for the large 1877 selling price. |
