Rectangular plan structure with the door opening on the east side, Purlin rafters on a gabled roof. The logs are squared on two sides only but sawed, The corner timbering is unusualland extremely eclectic, The plate logs are cut in a "double-joint" notch and overlap the end of the building by about one foot. MOving down the log tiers, the notching turns to a type half '•dovetailing which is confusing be cause the ends of the logs still protrude beyond the end of the building, i,e,, the notch is cut about one foot from the end of the log instead of right at the end as is common on half -dove tail joints, Half-dovetailing is not found in Scandinava'in areas, but the double»notch is Swedish and the protruding corner logs are a Scandinavian technique, g >; O {/) X Statement of Historical Significance: D Aboriginal Americans D Agriculture 5/Architeeture • D The Arts n Commerce D D D D D Communication Conservation ' Education Exploration/Settlement Industry D D D D D Military Mining Minority Groups Political Recreation D D D D Religion Science Socio-Humanitarian Transportation More research is necessary to construct the historical import of this small granarbut the confusion of techniques points to the process of acculturation,as disrupting the clear articulation of any one particular method of log work, |
