Show <\ -~ -·~' I:,,,/ ',.~· Figure 63: Type XII.· Charles Crawforth House, Spring City, 8-54/SP-17-311 . 2 story stone XYl house, c.1880. The Crawforth house, like several other houses in the valley, is unusual in t hat the facade openings on the two levels do not line up symmetri cally . Both storeys are symmetrical in their own right; the first is composed of an odd number of regular spaced bays and the second an even number. Working from the rules for piercing the facade, it is obvious that the bottom floor must be an xyl house and the uppe r floor an XX house (see figure 63). This mixing of base concepts is another indication of the design freedom allowed within the valley's architectural tradition.19 160 |
