Kopf - Achksemnis (k Zungenanstoss, undeutlich, kurz). *) Nach der Aussprache des alten Kutanä (Homacb-Ksächkum, die grosse Erde) geschrieben, dessen höchst ähnliches Bild Tab. XLVI. meines Atlasses, die rechte Figur darstellt. - Ich habe in dein ersten Bande dieses Werk's an mehren Stellen von diesem Volke geredet, u. a. pag. 551, 607. - "Von den Kuto- näs, Kutnehäs oder Kufcanihs sagt Parker (1. cit. pag. 304.) „sie bewohnen eine Gegend nördlich von den Ponderas am McgUlivrays Flusse, und werden als ein höchst interessantes Volk geschildert. Sie reden eine von der aller sie umgebenden Stämme verschiedene Sprache, wohlklingend, offen und frei von Gutturaltönen (dieses ist übrigens nicht gegründet, wie man aus meinem Wortverzeichnisse sehen kann), deren in den sie umgebenden Sprachen vorkommen. Sie sind reinlich an ihrem Körper und in ihren Wohnungen, offen und bieder, und wohlwollend unter einander. Ihre Zahl konnte ich nicht ergründen, aber sie zählen nicht über 1,000 Seelen." Bei Boss Cox findet man (pag. 242.), auch Nachrichten von ihnen;.allein der Missionär Parker (1. cit. pag. 286.) scheint die Wahrheitsliebe diesea Beisenden in Zweifel zu ziehen. Aus meinen genau nachgeschriebenen Worten der Kutanä-Sprache geht hervor, dass sie durch ihren ganz eigenen Zungenscbnalz nicht leicht auszusprechen ist, und eine Menge von Gutturaltönen hat. >¦¦-¦ [••sä ¦ ¦ ¦- ¦¦ ="¦: |
