Der Cedar-Bird (ßombycüla carolinemis oder cedrorum) nistet ebenfalls hier. Die Elstern halten sich im Winter mehr in Wäldern auf; allein der Rabe (Corvm corax) ist überall der Vogel, der Kälte die rauhen Stürme am besten erträgt. Aus der Gattung Caprimulgus giebt es Im Sommer nur die gemeine Species sehr häufig hier; der Whippoorwill soll nur Zlr*veilen und immer sehr selten hier vorkommen. Die Schwalben sind im Sommer zahlreich, unter ihnen ist Hirundo fulva gemein, deren Schwanz eine Gabel bildet, mit einem Ausschnitte von 1" 3"' Tiefe. Lanius septentrionalis *) lebt im Winter selbst in ^er Nähe von Fort-Clarke, dagegen im Sommer eine andere von lchardson sehr schön abgebildete Species**}, welche von dem carolinischen VVürger (Lamm carolinemis) specifisch verschieden zu seyn scheint. Aus der *anulie der Certhidae kommt hier keine einzige Art vor, also weder Sitta, Mnio-llta» noch Certhia bemerkt man in den im Winter höchst öden Wäldern um.Fort-arke, selbst nicht Parus biscolor; dagegen hält die muntere kleine Meise mit warzem Scheitel (Parus atricapUlus) den strengen Winter hier in guter Anzahl Die Prairie-Lerche (Sturnetta ludoviciand) und die Berglerche (Alauda cor-aJ leben im Sommer in den Prairies, der Schneeammer (Emb. nivalis) und der achsfiuk {Wring, linarid) sind Stand- oder Strichvögel des Winters; im Sommer emt wenigstens der erstere nicht hier zu leben. Fringilla amoena, bewohnt im °mmer paarweise die Waldungen, auch der gelbe Stieglitz (Fring. tristis). Von n Hühnerarten hat man nur eine Species hier, Tetrao phasianellus, ein Stand-&el des ganzen Jahres. Sie wird von den Americanern Prairie-Hen, von den anadiern le faisan, und von den Mandans Sipüska genannt. Wegen der vielen Jäger sind diese Vögel sehr schüchtern.
