Um die von mir nach der Erzählung der Indianer selbst mitgetheilte Beschreibung des Festes Okippe zu vervollständigen, lasse ich nachfolgend in treuer Ue-bersetzung die Beschreibung desselben, von einem Augenzeugen, dem Maler Catlin zu New-York folgen, wie sie derselbe in dem New-York Spectator nach eigener Ansicht mitgetheilt hat. Da demselben der Zusammenhang des Festes nicht immer richtig bekannt geworden ist, auch einige Irrthüiner sich eingeschlichen haben, welche bei einer so schnell vor den Sinnen vorbei eilenden Aufhäufung verschiedenartiger sonderbarer Gestalten und Gebräuche sehr verzeihlich ist, auch die indianischen Worte häufig nicht richtig ausgesprochen und geschrieben sind, so habe ich diesen Aufsatz, der übrigens noch mehre interessante Zusätze zu meiner Beschreibung giebt, mit einigen berichtigenden Anmerkungen versehen: Maadan - Dorf am oberen Missouri am 12.
