Sie tragen eine Kriegspfei e am Halse, und in der Hand das Fell ihres Medecine-Thieres. 7) Der Tanz der ausgestreckten Robe, Tschiri-Wakäh. Wenn ihnen bei diesem Tanze etwas gegeben wird, so nehmen sie es mit gegen den Geber ausgestreckter Flinte hin; dabei kleiden sie sich, wie sie zum Gefechte gehen, und nur die tapfersten Krieger dürfen Platz unter ihnen finden. Nimmt einer von ihnen ein Geschenk an, so kommt ein anderer, der mehr Coups gemac hat, stösst ihn auf die Seite, zählt seine Coups auf, bis es ein anderer wiede ebenso mit ihm macht, und so geht es fort, bis der Tapferste zuletzt die Geschenke in Beschlag nimmt. Sie ahmen im Tanze die Gebehrden des Gefec -tes nach, und halten mit dem Arme die Robe als Schild ausgestreckt, i wollten sie damit abwehren; dabei sind alle ihre Wunden mit rother Farbe auf den Körper gemalt. Alle diese Banden und Tänze werden bei den An " karas gekauft und verkauft, wie bei den Mönnitarris, Crows und Mandant auch müssen die Kaufenden bei solchen Gelegenheiten ihre Weiber dem *°* genannten Vater (Verkäufer) anbieten oder preissgeben. Ihre Spiele sind etwa dieselben wie bei den Mandans. Schon Bracke ridge erwähnt des sogenannten Billardspiels*). Die Haut einer jungen weis** Bisonkuh steht auch bei ihnen in grossem Ansehn. Sie haben für ihre Kriege dieselben Auszeichnungen als die Mandans, auch wird es mit den sanen eben so gehalten, nur trägt der Arikkara-Partisan als eine hohe Medecine wohnlich eine eingewickelte Mayskolbe vor der Brust. Wenn sie fliehen mus 30 befreien sie sich nie von ihrem Gürtel, sey es auch noch so heiss, welches ^ übrigen Nationen thun.
