Sie nennen ihü den lügenhaften Prairie-Wolf (Schähäcke). Ausser diesen ist noch ein sechstes der Ochkih-Häddä, den man nicht zu classificiren weiss, und von dem sie sagen* wer von ihm träume, müsse bald sterben. Er scheint in ihren Sagen als eine Art von Teufel zu figuriren, soll einst in ihre Dörfer gekommen seyii, ihnen mancherle1 gelehrt haben, ist seitdem aber nicht wieder erschienen. Sie sind bange vor ihm? opfern ihm, und haben in ihren Dörfern eine hässliche Figur aufgestellt, welche eine Vorstellung von ihm seyn soll. Die Sonne beten sie an, weil sie dieselbe fü* den Wohnplatz des Herrn des Lebens halten. Alle ihre Medecines oder Opfer sind vorzüglich an die Sonne, Mähap-Mihnang-gä gerichtet, also an den Herrn des Lebens. In dem Monde sagen sie, lebe die Alte, welche nie stirbt, eiue atte Frau, welche über den Kopf von vorn nach hinten einen weissen Streifen trägt-Opfer und Gaben werden ebenfalls an sie gerichtet. Sie wissen nicht, wer sie ist} ihre Macht ist aber gross. Sie hatte sechs Kinder, drei Söhne und drei Töchter? welche sämmtlich in gewissen Sternen wohnen. Der älteste Sohn ist der Tag* (der erste Tag der Schöpfung); der zweite ist die Sonne, in welchem der des Lebens wohnt. Der dritte Sohn ist die Nacht, Istüh-Hunsch (n franz.). älteste Tochter ist der Stern, der im Osten aufgeht (der Morgenstern) und nennen sie die Frau, welche den Federbusch trägt, Mihhä Uahänkä (an Die zweite Tochter, Köhpuska (der gestreifte Kürbis, la citrouille barree) genannt? ein hochstehender Stern, der sich um den Nordstern dreht, und endlich die dritte Tochter, Köhsedehä (e ganz ausgespr. aber kurz) der Abendstern, der nahe ti® Sonnen-Untergänge steht.
