Show 944 überall in Menge ein prachtvoll himmelblauer Phlox, auch die Erdbeeren hatten ihre Blumen, so wie viele andere schöne Pflanzen, die rothe Aquilegi» « nadensis u. s. w. Sehr viele zum Theil schöne Vögel belebten diese anziehenden Gebüsche. Der Kuckuk, die carolinische Taube, der rothbrüstige Kernbeisse (Fring. ludoviciana), die schön gelbbrüstige Icteria viridis, Sylvia aestiva, S'a Wilsoni, mehre Arten Finken, u. a. Fring. cyanea, erythrophthalma und eine eP so grosse neue Art, die wenigstens in Audubons Synopsis vom Jahre 1839 m aufgeführt ist, und welche ich Fringüla comata nannte (2.~)t so ^ie viele »DÖ Hessen ihre Stimmen hören und waren in höchster Thätigkeit. Viele schöne Sta"01 terlinge flatterten umher, unter ihnen Papilio Turnus, Aiax, Philenor, Plex'Pr U. s. w. Nachdem wir uns in den schönen Umgebungen hinlänglich umgesehen, ^ur Provisionen eingenommen, als ein Labsal und grosse Seltenheit frische Milcb trunken und dann die Reise fortgesetzt. Etwa um Mittag erreichten wir die düngen des La Platte-Flusses, wohin man von Belle-Vue 6 Meilen rechnet, sC l ten dann immer an der schön grünen Hügelkette hin, erreichten den Hügel Eye Clscütä"^aso)> un(* sahen mehrmals Wildpret (Cervus virginianus)» Truthähne u. s. w. Als die Sonne sich neigte, passirten wir Fife-Barril-und campirten dann gegenüber den Inseln desselben Namens am rechten Mi Ufer. Sobald wir gelandet, besuchte ich die Umgebungen mit der Flinte, ua zuerst durch eine ziemlich luftige Weiden-Stangendickung, dann durch einen sc len Rohrbruch, gänzlich mit Teichkolbe (Typha) bewachsen, dessen Boden halb weich war. Hier hatten die Rakuhne (Procyon Lotor) gangbare Pfade S ^ ten. Jenseit des Bruches zog sich die mit Bäumen und Gebüschen bevrac ^ Hügelkette mit dem schönsten Grün "bedeckt hin, wo der Baltimore und die 8 ^ Icteria sehr häufig waren. Die letztere liess ihre Stimme unaufhörlich höre' ¦> enthält eine Strophe, die in dem Gesang unserer Nachtigall vorkommt. Be . gegen Abend waren diese Vögel höchst belebt und beweglich.
