Show ner 341 12. Mai bei kühlem Wetter setzten wir früh die Reise fort. Einer mei-ager erlegte einen Scharben, den er mit der Büchse von einem hohen Baume schoss, dann scoifften wir gegen *° ühr bei den Ruinen des alten Forts von )uncil-Bluffs vorbei und erreichten die schön bewaldete Hügelkette, welche jetzt 1 fnschem jungem Laube malerisch sich zeigte. Ein Flug der rothschnäbligen eerschwalbe (Sterna Hirundö) strich über uns weg, wovon wir eine erlegten. 1 Nachmittage erreichten wir Boyers-Creek und beobachteten kurz zuvor den en Platanus am Missouri, einen sehr starken Baum. Von hier an beginnt nun Sse Baumart, und mehrt sich, so wie man weiter hinab kommt. Der Fluss macht Wendungen und um 1 Uhr bekamen wir die Ansicht von Major PiIchers rti«er Herrn Cabanne's) Trading-House, wo wir eine halbe Stunde später langten. Herr Pilcher empfieng uns nach so langer Abwesenheit sehr freundlich und r brachten den ganzen Tag bei ihm zu. Herr Bodmer zeichr 3 hier einen Omaha- und einen Öto-Indianer. Beide Völker sind in Gebräuchen * rächt nicht verschieden, auch ihr Aeusseres ist ziemlich dasselbe.
