Show 425 war. Wir Hessen ihn bald zurück und befanden uns am 7. August schon im le, indem wir während der Nacht Cape Lizzard vorbei gesegelt waren. Um Uhr nach Mittag erblickte man Land vom grossen Mäste, es war die Insel "¦uernsey, dann sahen wir Aldernay und später Cap Lahogue in Frankreich sehr deutlich. Der Wind nahm jeden Augenblick an Frische zu, und schoa trat die Abenddämmerung ein, der Wunsch nach einem Piloten sprach sich daher allgemein aus; doch endlich erblickte man ein solches, heftig mit den Wellen kämpfendes ß°°t, in Frankreich Flambard genannt, welches schnell heran segelte. Nur mit Srosser Anstrengung brachte man den ersehnten Lootsen aus Havre an unseren Bord. Wjr segelten nuu bei der Dunkelheit das Leuchtfeuer von Cherbourg vorbei, blickten alsdann das von BarJleur, während das Schiff 7 bis 8 Knoten lief. Am Morgen des 8. August befanden wir uns vor dem Havre de Grace bei e»nem heftigen Winde (en cape), und erwarteten die zum Einlaufen günstige Stunde, Elches hier, so wie in vielen Häfen des Canals nur mit der Fluth geschehen ann. Ungeduldig sahen wir diesem ersehnten Augenblick entgegen, der um so tiöschenswerther war, da der Wind immer mehr zunahm und zum Sturm zu wer-eQ drohete. Grosse Schiffe unter französischer Flagge aus Martinique und Guade-OuPe übten mit uns diese Geduld. Endlich nach 10 Uhr gab der Pilote das Signal, 8 Segel wurden schnell aufgezogen, und steigend und fallend, sich hoch hebend °d tief in die Wellen hinab tauchend eilte jetzt der Havre dem sicheren Hafeu ü> während seine bunte Flagge stolz im Winde flatterte. Auf dem Hafendamme ear> Jetee) war eine grosse Menge Menschen versammelt, und eine wilde Bran-n§ tobte hier an dem schmalen Eingänge des Hafens; jedoch bald fühlten wir Einfluss der Wälle, welche menschliche Kunst den Elementen entgegen zu '«en wusste, und um halb 12 Uhr Hess der Havre seinen Anker in Europa f*Üen. __ imilian v.
