Auf dem Kopfe trugen vier von ihnen, dies sind die ä ten Hunde, eine colossale, weit über die Schulter hinaus reichende Mütze Haube von Haben- oder Elsterfedern, an deren Spitzen kleine weisse federn angeklebt sind. In der Mitte dieser unförmlichen Federmasse ist der breitet aufrechtstehende Schwanz eines wilden Truthahns oder des Kriegsadlers aD* gebracht. Um den Hals tragen diese vier Haupthunde einen langen Streifen v rothem Tuche, der über den Bücken hinab bis auf die Waden hängt, und in Mitte des Rückens in einen Knoten zusammen geknüpft wird. Diese sind die vf» ren Hunde, die ein Stück Fleisch, welches man ihnen in's Feuer wirft, soglel roh verschlingen müssen. Pehriska-Ruhpa ist in diesem abenteuerlichen Au' zuge auf der XXIII. Zwei andere Männer eben solche colossale Mützen von gelblichen, dunkel quer gestreiften Uhufeder und einer die grosse schöne Mähchsi- Akub-Häschka, alle übrigen waren auf de Kopfe mit einem dichten Busche von Baben-, Elstern- oder Uhufedern geziert das Zeichen der Bande ist. Am Halse trugen sie sämmtlich ihre lange im linken Arme ihre Waffe, Flinte, Bogen oder Streitkolbe, in der rech*60 Hand aber das für ihre Bande bestimmte Schischikue, einen mit blauen und ^ sen Glasperlen verzierten und über und über mit Thierhufen behangeneu vorn mit einer Adlerfeder und am unteren Ende mit einem mit Perlen Stück Leder verziert. Die Krieger schlössen den Kreis, in dessen Mitte grosse Trommel gesetzt wurde, auf welche fünf schlecht angezogene Männer sitzender Stellung schlugen; ausser diesen standen noch zwei Männer zur 61 von welchen ein jeder eine kleine Trommel gleich einem Tamburin schlug, den heftigen schnell wiederholten Schlägen der Trommel pfiffen die Hunde m hender Stellung abwechselnd auf ihren Kriegspfeifeu in kurzen gleichartig «n wiederholten Sätzen, dann fiengen sie plötzlich an zu tanzen.
