Show S"i 229 n und einem oben gekrümmten anfasst. In der Hütte ist schon eine Feuerstelle gegraben, in welche man die heissen Steine legt. Die ganze Bevölkerung sitzt «schauer zu beiden Seiten der Bahn, wo man eine Menge Schüsseln mit Peisen, gekochtem Mays, Bohnen, Fleisch und dergleichen aufgestellt hat. Ein er Medecine-Mann ist bestellt, die Medecine zu verrichten. Er geht von dem nen Hügel aus über die aufgestellten Schuhe, indem er beständig seine Füsse dieselben setzt, nach der Schwitzhütte hin. Der junge Mann, für welchen die eine veranstaltet ist, steht nackt, bloss mit seinem Breechcloth versehen, vor Eingänge der Schwitzhütte und klagt und heult daselbst einige Zeit. Der Me-ne-Mann kommt nun mit einem Messer oder einer Pfeilspitze aus der Hütte VOr> und schneidet ihm ein Fingerglied ab, welches er als ein Opfer an den rn des Lebens oder aus einer anderen abergläubischen Absicht wegwirft, auf e der junge Mann sein Vertrauen gesetzt hat. Nach dieser Operation nimmt eschwörer eine Weidenruthe, geht nach den Schüsseln mit dem Essen, taucht uthe in eine jede derselben und wirft von dem Inhalte etwas in der Richtung ier Winde aus, für den Herrn des Lebens, für das Feuer und die verschie-überirdischen Mächte, indem er dieses laut hersagt. Die Speisen werden lnn unter die Zuschauer, Männer, Weiber und Kinder vertheilt, die älteren gehen in die Schwitzhütte, Weiber bedecken dieselbe sorgfältig und man von aussen, aus bereit stehenden Gefässen, Wasser mit Büscheln von auf die heissen Steine, wodurch die Anwesenden in heftigen Schweiss Sie singen sämmtlich zum Gerassel des Schischikue. Haben sie genug hAl witz*, so ruft man den Weibern ausserhalb der Hütte zu, die Felle wegzu-an trägt nun über die Reihe der Schuhe einen Bisonkopf mit der Nase arts nach dem kleinen Rasenhügel hin, um ihn daselbst in derselben Richtung b Ustelleü. Die Medecine ist nun vollendet. Die Roben, mit welchen die Hütte War, manchmal 60 bis 80 an der Zahl, giebt der junge Mann dem Be-Orer fur seine Mühe, und dieser schenkt einen Theil davon an die Anwesen- Wirft •¦ys - . . . . . |
