Show ! 120 besonderen Gerüsten sieht man Waffen, Schlitten, Schneeschuhe, so wie Fleisch und Mays in der Hütte aufgehäuft (s. Herrn Bodmer's Abbildung des Innern der Hütte des Dipäuch Tab. XIX.). Die Betten oder Schlafstellen stehen an der inneren Wand der Hütte umher. Sie bestehen aus einem grossen viereckigen Kasten von Pergament oder Fell, mit einem viereckigen Eingange, sind geräumig genug für mehre Menschen, die darin sehr bequem und warm auf Fellen und wollenen Decken liegen. Siehe den Holzschnitt. Vor der Thür erbaut man im Innern der Winterhütten eine hohe Schirmwand von Weidenästen quer vor, die mit Fellen bedeckt wird, den äusseren Lnftzug abhält und besonders die Feuerstelle vor dem Zuge schützt. Die Sommerhütten sind sehr kühl, und häufig ohne allen übelen Geruch. Say*) hat das Innere einer Conza-Hütte (Conza-Lodge) sehr gut beschrieben, auch ziemlich deutlich abgebildet und einige kleine Verschiedenheiten abgerechnet, ist ihre Bauart in der Hauptsache auch die der Hütten der Mandans, Mönnitarris und Arikkaras. Hierhin gehören besonders die Matten, die bei ersteren rundum befestigt sind, und welche man bei den von mir besuchten Völkern nicht bemerkt. Auch die Betten sind auf eine andere Art eingerichtet. In ihren Hütten findet man die Mandans und Mönnitarris un* das Feuer sitzend und mit allerhand häuslichen Arbeiten beschäftigt. Der Mann is* gewöhnlich bis auf das Nökkä nackt, und häufig mit Tabakrauchen beschäftigt die Weiber sind nie müssig. Im Winter, d. h. im Anfange oder in der Mitte des *) *. Major Long's exped. VoJ.
