To bring about a spirit of cooperation among business and professbnol women. 4. To extend opportunities to business and professional women along lines of industria I, scientific, and vocationa I activities. .• These aims have been accomplished in the fo lIowing ways: Through Civic Participation (Veda Jensen, chain-nan), we cooperated with the community in promoting the annual U.B.I.C. celebration held in Roosevelt each August. Our club, with Jean Labrum float chairman, built a beautiful float for the parade, which won second place in its class. During the months of June, July, and August the club sponsored authentic Indian dances each Thursday night at Rooseve It City Park as a' means of improving tourist trade in the community. Violet Parriette is to be congratulated in handling this wonderful program. In October we [oined the rest of the Nation in observing Nationa I Business Women's October 16-22. Mayor Ro Iph Sh ie Ids signed a proclamation declaring Nationa I Week, Business Women's Week in Roosevelt in recognition of women's contribution to the eornmunlty Club members invited their bosses to a breakfast that week, held at the Frontier Grill. Dr. Danniel S. Dennis, our representative in the State legislature, acquainted us with legislative proposals that were appearing on this year's ballots so that we might be well informed voters. At our N1arch meeting we were shown a film on juvenile delinquency and its problems by Ray Wardle, a member of the Ute Triba I Po lice Force. On October 28, Roosevelt Club had the privilege of hosting the Fall Conference for the Eastern District. Josephine Yergensen, State Second Vice President, instructed club members on the State's plans for progress with "All Systems Go". Other civic activities inc luded giving a cash contribution of :25 .00 to the Community Christmas Committee. Our club a Iso provided iudges for the Community Christmas Lighting Contest. A cash contribution of :!;25.00 was a Iso given to the Community Beautification Committee. Our club treasurary was replenished by selling Chrsitmas candies. Clard Timothy was a good finance chairman. Josephine Yergensen, our public relations chairman, who is also a member of Roosevelt Chamber of Comrnerce , has kept our membership informed of the Chamber's activities and ways in which we can support them. We have been kept abreast of world affairs this year by Ida Harrison and her committee who presented a progrcm on "Current Events in Wortd Affairs" at our September rneeting. In January we learned more about world affairs when th is committee took us on "Arm Chair Tour of East Germany". JoAnn Burgess Handy, an army officer's wife who had spent two years in Germany, served as our guide. an , |
