Show 23 "Woman of the Year", one of the most coveted awards the Club presents,went Afton Blonquist. She was head of the Finance Comm ittee, wh ich was responsible for the Birthday Calendar, the Eye Clinic, the County Fair projects, and assisted with the fashion show. She was presented a BPW pin. to meeting Bessie Anderson, a CPA having her own practice, on legislation. was speaker for the February Homer Murphy, fie Id representative of the Heart Association; Dr. R. J . Parker, Coalville physician; and Gary Smith, BPW member and Heart Chairman, were in charge of the March meeting. Fi Ims were shown on Guard Your Heart and High Blood Pressure. The BPW trio, Joan Sargent, LaVaun Vernon, end Louise Simister, received special recogn ition from State President, Joyce Frisby, at the district meeting held in the Treasure Mountain Lodge in Park City for their original composition wishing happy birthday to all district past presidents. Thelma Crandall, a member of our club, is serving as the District Director. Maude M. Ogden ENSIGN Three members of Ensign Club were active participants in the nine-week "Women's Management Institute" conducted during the winter at the University of Utah by Mrs. Esther Landa and associates in the Division of Continuing Education. In January, World Affairs caught club member interest with a personal travelogue of our Salt Lake City girls, Angela Riedel, who spent two years in Europe with by the State Department. one February was "birthday" month for Ensign, and members met in the recreation of Ruth Sutton's apartment-house home for an evening of fun and fund raising with Mrs. Mary Gcbry 's Ways and Means Comm ittee. room In March we took a look at Viet Nam and the position of the United States in World Affairs as seen through the eyes of Bruce Miller, reporter for KALL Radio Staron. Our Personal Development Committee presented Dr. Victor B. Cline, Clinical Psychologi st from the Un iversi ty of Utah, in Apri I. He gave an illustrated ta I k on the subject: The Basis of Communication Between Personalities. "The Model Citizen" was portrayed for Ensign as a guide for future community service by Mrs. J. Bracken Lee, wife of the Mayor of Salt Lake City, in the May program sponsored by the Civic Participation Committee. Ensign selected Betti Franzen as club delegate to Gir ls' State and Janilee Hill as alternate both from West High School. Vicki Taylor was chosen as Young Career - Woman for our entry in the state fina Is. These three girls were dinner guests in Apri I We participated in the Youthpower Conference at the University of Utah, decorating all the tables and sponsoring eight students, four each from East and High land High Schools. • I |
