Historians INEZ IRWIN, MASS. KATZENSTEIN, PA. HAYNES CAROLINE November 27, 1967 Dear Fellow Members and Friends: It is time once again to renew the financial strength of the National Woman's Party. The tire less efforts of our hardworking members never cease, however, funds do diminish and must be replenished periodically in order for our work to continue. Never before have we been so close to our goal, which is, of course, the passage of the Rights for Women Amendment to the Constitution of the United States. Equal We are greatly encouraged by the recent progress in the movement for equality for women. President Johnson issued an Executive Order on October 13th prohibiting discrimination on the basis of sex in Federal Employment and in employment by Federal Contractors and Sub Contractors. On October 26th Congress enacted a measure, which became law on November 8th, opening top ranks to women of the Armed Services of the United States and removing discrimination against women in the Army, Navy, Marines and Air Force. President Johnson sent the enclosed letter of October 26th to the National Woman's Party reaffirming his support of the Amendment. We rejoice also, that on November 7th, by a unanimous vote of 111 0, the General Assembly of the United Nations adopted a Declaration of Women's Rights, calling for "The universal recognition in law and in fact the equality of men and women. " - With the knowledge that we now have stronger support than ever before in Congress, and by the President, as well as the continuing strength and guidance of the officers of the National Woman's Party, let us not fail to express our own support with the money so vitally needed at this time. Prompt renewal of your membership, the solicitation of new members, or any contribution will be deeply appreciated. Yours ,very Sinc73'ely• )3Y707 )n/k7 'Y ... . ,) r/{ /J47; (/ " / _ . . .. . ". .
