Show Page two Hemispheric Friendship Dream Realized in San Salvador A second attempt to hold the Latin American conference was postponed in November, 1964 due to the eruption of Volcano Irazu in Costa Rica. During the intervening years, clubs and state federations which many projects and programs were continued by BPW included a number of exchange visits between North, Central and South America. In October, 1972, the dream became reality. The Congress of Business and Professional Women of the Americas met in San Salvador, EI Salvador, and delegates from 20 nations and approximately 200 observers discussed the status of women, education, the perspective of youth, series of intense interchange. and economic and social progress in development in a three-day Discuss ions brought out the growing role of women in a rapidly changing world and a renewed awareness of the need for understanding and ship between business and professional women in this hemisphere. The Proceedings of the Congress were summarized in report form following the meeting, so that others might benefit from the findings and recommendations of the Congress. friend Friendship Fund Supports Programs The 1972 Congress and a prospective Congress -- to be held in 1975 -- receive the bulk of their financial support from the World Friendship Fund, established in 1951 to honor Judge Sarah T. Hughes, a past national president of BPW. This fund, which is designed to support programs to increase understanding between business and professional women of the U, S. and other countries, in all parts of the United States.
