Moss, Assistant Manager, Walker Western Bank and Trust Co., First Price Branch; Jack Pressett, Supervisor, U. S. Steel Dean H. Catholic Carrer, Church; Gary Coal District; Father John laBranche, Pastor, Home stoke Utah Walter Eastern Mining of Div., of Students, College Weid, Supt., Utah; Supervisor, Public Schools; Judge Paul Keller, summarizer; Moore, a success - Co.; Harvey Secondary and students of the high schools in the district as panelists. The fourth Youthpower USA Conference was held at the Uintah High School in Vernal Marc 4, 1966, with Polly Adams, District Director, directing the event. Wilma Webb, Chairman, was assisted by four seniors of Roosevelt and Uintah High Schools, who attended the first conference in Salt Lake City, and five speakers who talked on "Youth's Opportunities in Tomorrow's World" to 50 students from six high schools in the area. The speakers inc luded Mr. Richard Pete.rson, State Board of Educo+ionj, Mr. Rex Curry, Bureau of Indian Affairs; Mr. Gordon Harmston, State Senator, Duchesne County; Miss Carol longe, Mental Health Clinic; and Mr. Larry Gotfredson, Utah Employment Security. on The fifth Youth power Conference was in the Centra I and North Centra I Districts with Thelma Crandall and Marie Grundvig, District Directors, as chairman and co-chairman. It was held at the University of Utah, and speakers included Secretary of State Clyde Miller; S. C. Johnson, Group Manager, Sears Roebuck; Beverly D. Kumpfer, Genera I Manager of Dr. Alton a Division at Litton Industries; John Maragakis, Factory Manager, Ajax Presses; and Yelken Gene of Rev. Keith of Utah; Wilson, University Utah; Hadlock, University Coordi of Utah Kate Methodist Christ of the Kirkham, University Mrs. Jamie Belt Church; Activities nating Counci I, who directed group discussions; and Co IIeen Makin, Student from the conference. of the Overview the Students who of gave Utah, Advisor, University schoo Is were members of the pane Is. The sixth Youthpower USA Conference was held in Cedar City at the College of Southern Utah, March 19, 1966, under the direction of Edna Sargent, District Di rector, with Karla Hulet and Ada Carpenter, co-chairmen. Speakers included Robert B. White, Jr., State Bank of So. Utah; J. W Tingey, C. S. U. Dean of Students; Winona Cowan, businesswoman; Sharon A. Stephenson,C.S.U. Instructor; Kerry Jones, Cedar City Council . man; and W. S. Leigh, businessman. The Sears Roebuck Foundation agreed to donate toward the conferences at the University of Utah and the Co liege of Southern Utah. Again in January, I flew to Washington, D. C., to attend the Legislative Conference from January 27 to 29, 1966. Senators and Representatives were invited to a breakfast with BPW members on Capitol Hill in the New Senate Office Building with the Honorable Margaret Chase Smith and the Honorable Maurine Neuberger as hostesses. Incidentally, it was quite a thri II to land in Wash ington in one of the worst snow storms they had ever witnessed. Congressman King attended the brea kfast; Senator Moss had to leave for Eng land and sent Mr. Grant Midge Iy, an assistant, in h is place. Senator Bennett and Congressman Burton forgot about the breakfast. BPW legislative representatives were given a briefing on "How Congressional Committees Function" by Senator Russell Long, Louisiana, and Senator Carl Curtis, Nebraska. Members then attended as many congressional committee hearings as they cou Id on Capito I Hill. My group took a fast-paced tour throughout the Capitol, through |
