Show 26 Alberto M. Va lentine BRI.GHAM CITY The Brigham City Club started their cluq year in August with a picnic supper and "rush party" at the local park. IV\argaret Evans served as chairman for the event and planned a fine menu. Forma I invitations had been sent to prospective members suggested by cur members, and 17 ladies responded to the invitations The good food was well spiced with iolly conversation and just getting acquainted. The only planned program of the evening was a talk by lenore Romer in which she outlined the history and the aims and activities of Business and Professional Womens Clubs. The evening was a success, as proven by the number of the guests who have since become members. •. Our first community service project takes place in September at which time the Brigham City Club has charge of the Peach Days window displays of hobbies and crafts. This is a difficult task, but it was handled very well by our "retired" members. Daisy Hansen served as chairman. Her committee; Mabel Nielson, Elizabeth Preston, and Eleonora Bowcott. The September meeting was the Personal Development program with Wi Ima Victor As ma,ny of the members throughout the State heard at our 1966 State Convention, Wilma is a very fine speaker. Her subiect for her program was "Meeting, Greeting, aod Getting to Know People". as chalrmcn , October was a very busy month,beginning the Northern District Fa II Conference held in Brigham City on October 2. Ann Johnson was the chairman and provided a fine program to entertain our guests. Elva Pierson served as chairman for the' "Business Women's Week". Co-chairman was Thurza Kingston. Five specific areas were chosen for representation in the observance. In the area of community service, IlJPreal Wight, local librarian, was honored. Anita Burt, ..tty sanitarian, represented unusual [obs for women. Eula Wooe, Box Elder County supervisor of the School Food Services, represented new fields for women. Attorney Shormc Hansen Fridal was the professional woman honored. In the area of partnership in business, our own Haze I Breitenbeker was chosen. These women were a lso guests at the October meeting. Newspaper coverage was extensive I and the project highly successfu I. served the dual purpose of observing our specia I week and also stressing membership. Twelve new members were installed at this meeting. The program gave us the opportunity to meet and hear our honored guests and alSo meet and hear the Utah Young Career Woman for 1966, J'\kJry Eleanor Johnson, who was also installed as a member that evening. Elva Pierson is the membership chairman for the Brigham City Club as well as for the State; so we kept· her very busy. The October meeting The November meeting was the legislative program with Grace Fox as chairman. Three ladies from the Loogue of Women Voters conducted a pane I discussion on the 'lawmaking bodies, focal, state, and oetlonel Basic title for the program was "Politics and You". At this meeting, the club resolved to provide magazine subscriptions on an annual basis to the local Nursing Home as one of our service programs. The club also decided to investi gate the possibi lities for a id to the menta I retardation program in this area. , In December the Club enjoyed the annual Christmas part)'. This is always a the evening was fi lied fun program. Hazel Breitenbeker arranged the party I and strictly with games and gifts. |
