In the evening, Senator Neuberger spoke to us on Women's Role in Politics. The next morning, I visited the offices of all of Utah's Senators and Congress Senator Bennett talked with me men and presented the National Legislative Platform. at length and later escorted me to Congressman Burton's office. At the time Senator Dirkson was conducting a filibuster against the repeal of the right-to-work law, and Senator Bennett intended to help. On Saturday, Congressman David S. King, Utah, and Congresswoman Catherine Wash ington, spoke to us regarding our situation in Viet Nam and the issues facing May, the 89th Congress. I recommend that we continue to participate more fully in National Convention activities, endorse qualified women from Utah for National chairmanships and offices, and budget for such activities through a permanent National Convention Fund. To improve our future, I recommend that clubs study the literature on "How to Start an Investment Club" to make finance more interesting, plan for the future, and wisely invest their money. I recommend that we ho ld a Legislative Conference patterned somewhat after National Federation's Legislative Conference, actually go up on Capitol Hill while the legislature is in session, and study the issues. May 1 suggest that, at club level, we try to institute the Community Career Conferences to he Ip students, women starting into the labor field, women who have worked or who need training, women who need retraining, and women who wish to change careers or who wish to start a new field after retirement. The conferences should be geared to show them how to prepare themselves and what to expect, as I l' |
