I'm wondering if any of us were superstitious. Let's hope not, for it has been far from ,an unlucky yr. Your officers have taken most seriously the Theme of our Fall State Board Meeting PlAN FOR PROGRESS Build through Unity. We have been united, and this extended throughout unity the entire state board which includes the Standing and Special Committee Chairmen, District Officers, and Club 'Presidents. With the Space Crew united, how could all of our Astroiills fa i I to fo lIow ? They did fo lIow - - • . Did I again hear that word "Space"? That required space-age thinking and planning. For every space, activity, there must be clear, thoroughj and concise brifing. ' Briefing of our 1961'-68 program and activities began at the 1967 State Convention in "ark City. The Theme PLAN FOR PROGRESS All Systems Go was introduced by our Notiona I Representative 000 the Program Committee. We were thri lied with the opportunity w· gave us for serious thinking and planning and a Iso the opportunity it afforded for showmanship. Some degree of showm,.nsip must be used if we ere to be successful in ourendecvors How elearly this was shown at National Convention in New York City at the sessions covering Program Presentatlon and Membership Blast-Off! - - , . ' , The unlucky number thirteen appeared aga'in for there were thirteen members of our Utah Federation who were in New York to enjoy the most lnformctive meetings as well as the fun and fellowship activities. But again it turned out to be a lucky number, for all retumed 'safely from their post-convention trips to Montreal, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Indiana, and elsewhere, much enriched. Words to express my appreciation and humi lity for the privi lege of representing you, the Utah Federation, at our National Convention and the opportunity of being in' one of my favorite cities to be ngain among the Bright Lights of Broadway fail me; so I will [ust say a most sincere "Thank you". - - A final briefing was given at the PosrConvention Board Meeting attended by First Vice President De Lone Petersen and myself. Rules were laid down, policy actions taken, and suggestions given for utilizing our Theme to its best advantage. Membership was given a real blast-off with- much fanfare as each State Federation was assigned to a specific flight crew. Utah is a member of the Nike Fleet. Each President signed very officio I document pledging a ten-percent increase in membership and number of clubs. Your President pledged a membership of 1223 as of June 30, 1968, and three new clubs. a Part one of a return ticket from the moon was a Iso give' your President., The second pertlon of the ticket was to be received when our membership reached seventy-five percent of our Juae. 30, 1967, total. This your Federation received in December. The third portion was to be' issued when our Federation This we accomplished in March 1968. A star was presented to the Federation President in each Fleet having attained the highest percentage of membership and an anchor to the one with the lowest percentage.
