Show 33 The Ogden club has more than equa I ized its membersh ip this year as compared with 89 last year. • We have 92 members We took part in the Young Career Woroon contest and took second place for We felt that Tina Johnson was an outstanding girl. the Northern Dlstrlct , Although we have had a successful year, we are looking forward to our new club year and hope to accomplish even more. Willie Smith OREM A unique essay contest with 300 entries, an impressive community-shared, patriotic meeting, and a scholarship to a career-minded young girl are among the accomplishments of the Orem BPW th is year. We began the year with a membership meeting in Provo Canyon. Several prospective members who enjoyed this informal evening with us later became members. The Spring City Pioneer Home of lynn Peterson was scene br our July socia I, where we enjoyed a marve lous supper prepared on her coo I range. Beginning a year of outstanding programs, Dr. Benton Gaskell, minister of Orem Community Church, told us how we can put faith to work for us. In October, Frank Wi lies, teacher ot Orem High School, was kept busy answering questions about his study tour of Russia. Later in the year, Sid Gilbert, an Orem accountant advised us on budget and tax matters. I Elizabeth Vance, Women and Minority Consultant for the Utah Anti-discrimination Division in the Utah State Industria I Commission, to lked with us about the equa I pay for equa I work law. Her information was enthusiastica Ily received by our members, who asked many questions and suggested areas of investigation. Lee Stott, KOVO newscaster and KBYU-FM manager, to Id us of problems invo Ived in mass communica- tions in March. Resu Its of our outstanding essay contest were revee led at an impressive meeting held on Election Day at the Utah iNational Guard Armory. Many, many important guests shared the evening with us, including Jean Fox, State BPW President; Anne Kidd, Immediate Post State President; He len Doh Ie, State Corresponding Secretary; Josephine Yergensen, State Second Vice President; Dr. and Mrs. Vasco Tenner) E. B. Terry; Col. leRoy Walker; and BPW district officers and club presidents. We were joined by many interested people from the community as we II as essay winners and their parents. The essay contest itse If deserves more than passing mention. Over 300 youngsters took time to write a page on "What My Country Means t Me". We asked that the essay be short and sincere. Judging was not done on the basis of literary merit, but on the genuineness of fee lings expressed. Because of the unexpected quality and enthusiastic response, we gave additional prrzes Rose Marie Cloward as first-place winner was given a flag ki nd U•• S.
