Show ,I'1t:3 35 In March a fi 1m was presented on cancer, and Dr. Bennion discussed the subject of cancer. The World Affairs Committee will present the program in April, at which time three foreign exchange students will be the speakers. In May the Civic Participation Committee will present the program. In June the Membership Committee will present the program at which time it will be the club's birthday party and the installation of new officers. We have initiated eight new members this year: Amy DeReus, June Dahle, Ellen W. Cutler, Jewell Bindrup, Bettie L. Jones, Blanche M. Miller, Louisa T. Rodgers, Ellen Wandell, and have had Hanna Crookston transfer to our club. SPANISH FORK Mildred Ream The Spanish Fork Business and Professional Women's Club moved on with progress by active participation and specia I programs. The programs were in keeping with the outline of the Federation such as Personal Development, Civic Participation, and World Affairs. Our year's program lent emphasis on youth. At Christmas time the club attended in a body the Christmas Festival presented by the Spanish Fork High School students, which was wonderful. The instructors appreciated our support as they claim it gave the youth moral support. The high school debating team gave one of our programs on the timely subject of "Unions." Th is gave the debating team good practice to enter the State contest in which they rated superior. The Christmas pro ject was to assist theyouth at the Utah State Hospita I. Boxes clothes and handicraft articles were given them. The hospital officials claim it was a great help to assist them in their tPrerapy. National Business Women's Week was observed by placing posters in the windows of business places on Main Street as a Salute to the Business Women. The "Woman of the Year" award was announced during the week, spotlighting business woman. Mildred Ream, president of the club, was the woman selected for distinguished community and club work. a The Spanish Fork club presented an outstanding career girl (Elaine Jones) to compete in the District contest to enter the State competition for a career girl to go to the Nationa I BPW Convention. The club was asked to participate in the red-hot question of Angle versus Parallel Parking on Spanish Fork Main Street. An editorial appeared in the Spanish Fork Press that the BPW Club was against parallel parking. The question is still under di scussion. The Spanish Fork Club a Iso joined in the fight against obscene literature and for better movies and reading. President Mi Idred Ream was appointed on the executive committee by Mayor Timothy Moran on pornography. I |
