Show 2 As the convention was in Washington, D. C., special activities were organized for the Board which included a twilight tour of Washington, a tour through the headquarters building, a special tour through the White House, invitations to many open houses, banquets, parties, breakfasts, and luncheons. In fact, there was seldom a moment that there was not an assignment or an invitation. State officers and delegates had lunch in the Senate private dining room with Senator and Mrs. Frank E. Moss, Barbara Jean Merrill and her parents, Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army and Mrs. Eugene Merrill,. Later they went to the Senate gallery to observe the passing of the Medicare bill. It was a pleasure for me to represent Utah as a speaker on Club Presidents' night to the continuing education program at Tooele. Other speakers included Dr. Seymour report Marshak, Director of Marketing Research, Ford MotorCompany; a panel of four past national presidents; Louise Bushnell, Director, Womenls Dept. of the Nationa I Association of and Allen Seed, Manufacturers; Eugene P. Foley, Head of the Small Business Administration; II Executive Vice President of IIKeep America Beautiful, Inc. on All activities included distinguished speakers and famous musical groups. Some of the speakers were Marion Sadler, President, American Airlines; Senators Thomas Kuchel and George Murphy of Ca I ifornia; Margaret Hickey, President's Nationa I Advisory Council on Status of Women; Wi II iam J. Quinn, President, Mi Iwaukee Road; and Vice President Hubert Humphrey who spoke at the formal banquet. The famous. United States Marine Band and the USAF Singing Sergeants were two outstanding musical groups. At the convention it was a privilege to endorse Frances Lenox as National Personal Development Chairman when requested by Helen K. Leslie, newly elected National President. Severa I of Utah IS members attended the Internationa I Congress wh i ch immediate Iy followed the Convention. I was able to meet many members of the foreign delegations and later made arrangements, with the help of Dorcas Roberts, World Affairs Chairman, and officers and members in the Salt Lake vicinity, to meet with some of them when they visited Utah. At the Fall Board Meeting on September 12, 1965, members and delegates who attended the Nationa I Convention brought the messages to the rest of our members and tried De Lone Peterson, Logan, reported on to spark a little enthusiasm for conventions to come. on the finance workshop; Susanna Mae Esther Olsen, Logan, reported membership meetings; on relations the workshop; Bessie Anderson, Salt lake , public Grua, Wasatch, reported Fox gave convention highlights; Anne and Jean the program; legislative platform explained Girl Anna Erickson, Brigham City, on the Career Program; House, reported Kidd, Sugar and Anna on the Stark, Fork, gave a report on activities Spanish magazine workshop; reported of the International Congress. Anne Kidd, Program Chairman, assisted by Violet Southard, Juanita Perkes, and Dorcas Roberts, the three program chairmen, conducted a BPW programming session in the afternoon. Workshops were held with chairmen and presidents . As the post-Convention Nationa I Board Meeting had to be cut short due to the Inter nationa I Congress, Board members were ca lied back to Wash ington, D. C., September 17, 1965, to September 19, 1965, to attend a Post Board Meeting at the Marriott Motor Hotel. Frances Lenox, National Personal Development Chairman, and I flew to Washington. It was our privilege the first night to attend a reception in honor of Madame Chiang Kai-Shek, meet other Free Chinese officials, and be photographed with Madame Chiang, who is a very gracious woman. The extra Board meeting proved very educational and informative for the State presidents. They not on Iy benefitted from this extra knowledge but became better acquainted with each other. It was interesting for me to lead one of the discussion groups and have a buzz session on what would most effectively sell programs in the states and |
