| Show UTAH PRESS ASSOCIATION Goodwin for outstanding promotion of literacy Ogden-Weber County Humane Society 1994 recognized the Standard-Examiner for its coverage and support of the Ogden Animal Sheltersuccessful AdoptPet program Business Leaders Against Organized Crime 1992 the local organization sponsored by the Weber County Attorneyoffice honored the newspaper for coverage of the groupefforts to crack down on drug dealers and other organized crimi nals American Heart Association 1993 issuedcertificate of appreciation to the Standard-Examiner for service toward the groupgoals Beginning in 1985 the newspaper organized and sponsored an annual road race to raise funds for the associa tion in honor of former Standard-Examiner General Manager Robert Monson who died in 1984 Glasmann Standard-Examiner Adult Literacy Program -The Glasmann family former owners of the Standard-Examiner established an adult literacy program in the late 1980s which is operated under the auspices of Weber State University Glasmann Standard-Examiner Utah State University Internship Program -The former Standard-Examiner ownership family in the late 1980s created an endowment at Utah State University to fund in cooperation with the StandardExaminer an internship for USU journalism and photojournal ism students to serve summer Examiner news department internships in the Standard Standard-Examiner Distinguished Student Awards -the newspaper in 1994 beganprogram in which the top two percent of high school seniors in Northern Utah high schools receive recognition as Standard-Examiner Distinguished Students and four among that group win scholarships of 000 to the college of their choice Research and preparation by Flora Ogan associate editor Donna Bingham librarian and Mark Shenefelt assistant managing editor 162 Digital image 2005 Marriott Library University of Utah Al rights reserved |
