Description UTAH'S SIX SURVIVING DAILIES dated Press for outstanding service to the news cooperative (the most recent citation received in 1993) the Standard-Examiner has a long record of honors and achievements, including: The Newcomen Society of North America, 1972 - honored the Ogden Standard-Examiner for general achievements in the advancement of journalism and newspapers in Utah. Education Writers Association, 1985 -- awarded the Standard-Examiner and staff writers Don Baker and James Thalman first prize nationally for investigative reporting by a newspaper of less than 75,000 circulation. Baker and Thalman uncovered wrongdoing by a top school official. American Newspaper Publishers Association Foundation, 1991 -- awarded the Standard-Examiner first place nationally in the Newspapers in Education Program Excellence Competition for newspapers with circulation of 50,000-100,000. The award recognized the yearlong achievements of the Standard-Examiner Educates Kids (SEEK) program. ANPA Foundation, 1992 - the Standard-Examiner's SEEK program won the same award a second straight year. Newspaper Association of America Foundation, 1993 -awarded the Standard-Examiner first place nationally in the Newspapers in Education Program Excellence Competition in the category of papers with circulation of 50,000 to 100,000. The award was given in recognition of the paper's SEEK program. Ogden City Arts Commission, 1991 -- recognized the newspaper's SEEK program for excellence in the arts. St. Benedict's Hospital Foundation, 1992 -- honored the Standard-Examiner for first place for its outstanding support of the foundation's Corporate Sports Challenge program. Utah Musical Theatre, 1990 - bestowed its Community Service Award on the Standard-Examiner for coverage and support of the arts.
