| Show UTAH PRESS ASSOCIATION The untimely death of Mr Epperson at the age of 44 deprives Utah oftrue leader andforce for good All those who knew him join in mourning Mr Eppersonpassing and in offering sincere sympathy to his bereaved family simultaneous commendation appeared over the signature of Duchesne Record and Roosevelt Standard publisher Clifton Memmott who wrote The untimely passing Sunday evening of Albert Al Epperson publisher of the Morgan County News and Summit County Bee two small weekly newspapers renderedsad blow to his family and to his many friends in and out of the newspaper field It was my privilege to work closely with Al Epperson fornumber of years and through his outstanding leadership and influence the Utah State Press Association grew to maturity and becamerecognized force nationally So much so that Al was honored by being elected to the National Editorial Association board Two months ago at the NEA convention in Canada he was elevated to the vice-presidency and in 1956 would have become NEA president Al Epperson was my friend as he wasfriend to every other newspaper publisher who knew him His intelligent and thoughtful advice and counsel will be missed by the NEA board as it will be missed by the executive board of the USPA of which he has beenmember for the past decade andhalf But most of all Al will be missed by his wife Virginia his daughter Shirley and his close associates in his hometown of Morgan where he put his personality into his newspaper The praise of his peers and the files of his newspapers evidence Al Eppersonworthiness for Hall of Fame admission He wasboon to Utahjournalistic community andcredit to the profession he followed WILLIAM PERRY EPPERSON Kaysville Reflex Born September 23 1859 Died December 31 1930 Installed in Hall of Fame at Salt Lake City 1968 Journalism and ranching vied for his favor during much of his early life and printerink won out 492 Digital image 2005 Marriott Library University of Utah Al rights reserved |
