| Show THE UTAH NEWSPAPER HALL OF FAME under the direction of his widow and children The Standard-Examiner had another ancestor of course the Morning Examiner which produced its first issue on January 1904 with Frank Francis as editor Four months later the Standard bought the Examiner and the association of Mr Francis with the Glasmann family was begun Mr Glasmann proceeded to publish both papers until 1911 five years before his death -when he sold the morning paper togroup of Salt Lake City and Ogden businessmen represented by Eldredge Jr of Salt Lake City who became manager of the Ogden Examiner On April 1920 nine years after the Examiner had been sold -a consolidation was arranged by the Glasmann and Eldredge interests They brought about the Ogden StandardExaminer as an evening and Sunday morning newspaper with Glasmann and Mr Eldredge as co-publishers Soon after World War II ended in 1946 the Glasmann interests purchased those of the Eldredges in the newspaper and the Glasmann family acquired complete ownership with Glasmann continuing as publisher and editor Today the Ogden Standard-Examiner is being printed in its newly modernized headquarters plant at 455 23rd Street the former National Guard Armory Building The structure was taken over and expanded on March 1962 and it stands today assturdy monument to Ogdenpioneer newspaper publisher William Glasmann CHARLES CARROLL GOODWIN Salt Lake Tribune Born April1832 Died August 25 1917 Installed in Hall of Fame at Salt Lake City 1972 During the two decades he served as editor of the Salt Lake Tribune this transplanted Easterner became the most widely-known personality of the newspaperearly history And his editorial duelling with Charles Penrose certainly one of the most brilliant provocative and widely-quoted editors of the Deseret News attracted the attention of journalists throughout the nation 541 Digital image 2005 Marriott Library University of Utah Al rights reserved |
