| Show UTAH PRESS ASSOCIATION The Resolution adopted by the convention assembled on February 27 1962 read WHEREAS Utah has had many outstanding newspaper publishers and editors whose lives and memories should be preserved and WHEREAS the newspaper industry in the State has hadmost interesting and fascinating history and WHEREAS there isneed for the preparation and preservation ofhistory of each and every Utah newspaper and WHEREAS the Utah State Press Association is interested in honoring the memories of some of its outstanding editors and publishers in acquiring and preserving the history of the Statenewspapermen and in encouraging the prepara tion and preservation of the history of each and every Utah newspaper THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Utah State Press Association in the annual Winter Convention at the Hotel Utah in Salt Lake City on February 16 17 18 1962 establishes Hall of Fame and other suitable methods of honoring the memories of newspaper editors and publishers in acquiring and preserving the history of the Statenewspapers and in encouraging the preparation and preservation of the history of each and every Utah newspaper second action of the convention assembled was adoption ofresolution titled Hall of Fame Perpetuated It read It is recommended by the Utah Newspaper Hall of Fame committee that additional names be placed in the Hall of Fame each year and in order to havefile of Utahoutstanding newspaper editors and publishers it is desired that each newspaper in the Utah State Press Association submitcandidate for this honor In addition to nominating men for the Hall of Fame it is suggested that each editor of the state should prepare and submithistory of their newspaper which will be kept on file in the state office The last stipulation has never been carried out perhaps because the central office failed to follow through Or equally possible because in many instances the publishers werensure of the history of their publications In any event Cecil Alterwork and this volume somewhat fulfill the historical 418 Digital image 2005 Marriott Library University of Utah Al rights reserved |
