Smith of the Utah Historical Society and Bill Sniffen, prize-winning photojournalist of the Wyoming State Journal in Lander, were other featured speakers. J. M. (Jim) Cornwell, president of National Newspaper Association, updated delegates on progress of the Washington, D.C.-based organization. Howard Roeder, Peoria, Illinois, and Robert O. Bjornn, Salt Lake Times, was elected president. Dr. David P. Gardner, president, University of Utah, was a keynote speaker. Elwood Shaffer, director of communications, Utah Farm Bureau, spoke on Farm Supplements and a panel of journalism department heads discussed the state of communications education in Utah. Its members were Marian Nelson, Utah State; James Foster, Weber State; Robert Tiemens, University of Utah and Edwin 0. Haroldsen, Brigham Young University. R. W. (Bob) Olson of Metro Associated Services, conducted an advertising layout workshop. Eighty-second annual meeting.
