Show 204 three large, colorful billboards that talk about the role of Rio Tinto in the Salt Lake community. All of them have the same headline: "We're Part of Something Bigger," each with a different subtitle. The first reads: "We're Part of Something Bigger: Community and Partnerships" (emphasis added), and is followed by three easily readable paragraphs that detail all of the things Rio Tinto does to engage with the community. In the background is a beautiful visual backdrop of the Daybreak suburban community. The first paragraph makes a clear connection with soccer: In the late 1800s, it was Rio Tinto employees who first introduced soccer to Spain. It created recreational opportunities for people in the communities that we were a part of. More than a hundred years later, we still have a love for soccer, and so we are proud to put our name on the Rio Tinto Stadium. For us, it's a natural fit. In addition to stadium naming rights, this investment in the community provides us with the opportunity for Rio Tinto to be involved in important education and youth sport programs in the Salt Lake City area. Rio Tinto supports this claim with a list of its community partnerships: it has donated land to build schools in Daybreak; it provides scholarships to students studying sciences and trades; it funds non-profits and community organizations such as the Kennecott Nature Center, Tracy Aviary, Red Butte Arboretum, the Road Home, and Fallen Officers Memorial; it funds volunteer efforts such as fundraisers and food drives; and, as we know, it is "a proud partner with the new Utah Museum of Natural History at Rio Tinto Center," which emphasizes education about "natural and cultural wonders," "careers in the natural environment," and safety. Rio Tinto concludes by stating, "This is our way of building sustainable relationships characterized by mutual respect, trust, active partnership, and long-term commitment." At the bottom of the billboard, Rio Tinto invites the RSL fan to read more about its citizen-subjectivity at www.kennecott.com, www.kennecottland.com, and www.riotinto.com. |
