Description |
Testimony given before special master Charles Warren in a suit brought by the United States against the state of Utah over ownership of the bed of the Colorado River. Much of the testimony was given by river runners, scientists and engineers, petroleum geologists, and placer miners. The testimony constitutes an extensive oral history of the men and women who utilized the Colorado River Basin in Utah prior to 1929. |

At Fort Bottom had to pull off sand bar with capstan . Got on at noon and did not get off ( until 'until until ) evening . ( R . 3401 . ) Stuck at a place called ( Hell's Hells ) ( Hole 11ole ) ( on ou ) trip down ( R , 3402 ) , at about two in the afternoon ; in the morning the sand had cut out and the boat floated ; this was about 35 or ( 40 10 ) miles below the railroad bridge ( at Greenriver ) and below the ( mouth inouth ) of the San Rafael about 15 miles . ( Anchor Anclior ) weighing about 150 pounds thrown overboard . ( R . 3402 . ) Carried no freight or passengers , just guests . At low or medium stage of water no trouble to go through the Slide , but in ( the thle ) ( high bigli ) stage a craft can not go through .
