Description |
Testimony given before special master Charles Warren in a suit brought by the United States against the state of Utah over ownership of the bed of the Colorado River. Much of the testimony was given by river runners, scientists and engineers, petroleum geologists, and placer miners. The testimony constitutes an extensive oral history of the men and women who utilized the Colorado River Basin in Utah prior to 1929. |

Galloway came in ( file the ) first time that there were two men with him . He ( doesn't doesnt ) remember what kind . of boats they ( liacl had ) as he was only a small boy . He ( knows luiows ) they ( stayecl stayec ) for sometime at the ferry and ( he lie ) ( doesn't doesnt ) know where they were when they left . ( R . 3094 . ) He does remember , however , that their boats were there for several years afterwards . ( Tliey They ) were just small open boats decked over with ( can- can ) vas as he remembers it . The canvas came over the ends and would just leave a space open where he sat . It ( was -was was ) the last time Galloway came down that he took him out to Kanab . ( R . 3094-3095 . ) He ( doesn't doesnt ) know where Galloway carried on his trapping operations , but he knew he had some skins with him on his last trip . In the three other parties he mentioned that came down the river he included the Kolb brothers and the next was the party who had the rifle , and the third outfit was an old fellow by the name of Barnes .
