Show He is familiar with a rapid 963 known as Aztec Rapid on the Colorado River , and ( he be ) would judge from the character of all of the rapids that he designated on the San Juan that they would all compare in size , and are worse than the Aztec Rapid . ( R . 3771 . ) After you reached the Colorado River , their mission ( had bad ) been completed . On the trip down the Colorado River to Lees Ferry Oct . 5th to the 8th , no difficulty was encountered getting across Aztec Rapid . The boats went through easily , the only impediment to progress being ( ground ground- ground ) ings and shallow water on a few occasions ; in fact , that stretch of the Colorado in comparison with the San Juan seemed like a very placid stream . On the trip down LaRue , Kolb and himself acted as boatmen . Upon arriving at Lees Ferry he went ( overland overlancl ) to Flagstaff , Arizona . He ( has bas ) observed a lot of silt in the San Juan River . The river was always muddy when they were on it . ( R . 3773 . ) In his opinion , the wind contributes only a minor portion of the silt and sand in the San Juan River , the greatest portion being brought down by side streams or water flowing across the surface of the ground .
