Show Cataract Canyon and stopped 1241 at Hite . They ran , ( all aIU ) ( of of- of ) the rapids but one and had to portage that because ( Eussell Russell ) had turned over a boat and lost the oars so they portaged down below and let the boat ( clown down ) with a line overland and found the oars ( drift drift- drift ) ing in an eddy . JR . 4885 . ) This boat had ( water water- water ) tight compartments with a cock pit in the middle , a little hatch in front and one in back where they put all their provisions , bedding , ( and aiiC3 ) other stuff . They all had life preservers and wore them , but he did not wear a life preserver before ( reaching Teaching ) the Cataracts . He left the river at Hite . Since the 1914 trip just described he has ( not -not not ) made any other trips on the Green River . ( R . 4885- 4886 . ) Their boat he believes loaded would draw eight , , inches and there is always plenty of water on the Green River for rowboats . There are sand bars that he could hit if he ( wasn't wasnt ) careful but if he , would follow the channel there is plenty of water to run a ( well-loaded wellloaded ) rowboat . Coming upstream he had to take advantage of all of the tidewater he could find , either rowing or towing . Sometimes he would run on a sand bar , push off , and have plenty of water . The situation with respect to difficulties or obstructions in boat travel from the head of the Cataracts up to Moab is about the same [ as on the Green River ] . ( R . 4886-4887 ) |
