His ( obser- obser ) vation has been that the channel of the river is well defined within certain limits ; it can not ( get got ) very far one way or the other . ( R . 5362 . ) This condition is true of both rivers . His knowledge and experience of the rivers is valuable to one attempting to navigate them and navigation can not be done without knowledge and experience . There is some remarkable building stone between the head of Cataract Canyon and the junction of the rivers , but no attempt , so far as ( he lie ) knows , has ever been made to market this stone . One is a very high brown stone in slabs and the other a limestone , also in layers or slabs . The ( limestone liniestone ) takes a beautiful polish and shows pink crinoids . ( R . 5363-5364 . ) These deposits are five to six miles long and extend from the river surface to a height of 1,300 feet , and it would not be practicable to work or coin this building stone , except from the bottom of the canyon . ( R . 5364 . ) If the quarries were worked and the stone taken out , at the present time he does not know of any other method of getting the ( stone st-one stone ) out of there excepting by the river .
