Show ? " ? ( ; v ( 'OT OT ) . aK i % UHIM0iaMMNV 1053 ( Cross-Examination CrossExamination ) ( R . Vol . 24 , pp . 4187-4194 ) : He remembers the date of leaving GreenriverY , Utah , September ( 20 26 ) , 1926 , because it was the ( morn niorn- niorn ) ing after the ( Dempsey-Tunney DempseyTunney ) fight . ( R . 4187 . ) He knows the date he arrived at Moab because the total trip required eighteen days on the river . He is unable to give the exact location of the place where ( he lie ) stopped two days to take a geological section , but it was some eight or twelve miles above the junction of the rivers . They stopped comparatively little to do mapping , most of the stops being to examine formations , this being done quite frequently , but they did not stop every day to examine the formations because they had been studied from the top . ( R . 4188-4189 . ) He would judge that they landed three or four times a day on an average . Neither he nor Mr . McKnight had ever been on the river before and had no knowledge of the ( loca- loca ) tion of channels . In studying the geology it was not necessary to travel along close to the shore . They were trying to follow the deepest channels of the stream , one guiding the boat while the other did mapping . Their progress was so slow that they could do that . They could not see where the deepest channel was and would get fooled quite often . ( R . 4189-4190 . ) At the point they had to wade the entire river , they would find one channel deep enough to float ( 33307-31-vorA 3330731vorA ) . 2-21 |
