Show yons was sufficient to tell 881 the location on the river ; he does not thinlc there was any time when he could not tell within one hundred yards ( where ivhere ) they were ( 'On On ) the river . On that day August 8th ] they had a lot of trouble just below the Kane Creek Well , where they spent some time trying to find a way to get the boat ( up- up ) ( -stream stream ) , and , as he recalls , waded very nearly the ( -width width ) of the river trying to see a place where the boat could be got over easily ; finally decided that it would be simpler to get out and haul it , so the two of them hauled the boat somewhere near one hundred yards before getting into water up around their knees . . ( R . . 3931 . ) The map which he had showed only the sand islands , there being some in that stretch , but they had changed their positions since the map was made . ( 'The The ) map also showed the banks up to a fixed height , the contour of the banks , the ( mouths moutbs ) and names of side canyons . He identifies pages 17 , 18 , and 19 of Exhibit 10 as the maps which ( he be ) used on that ( occa- occa ) , sion . . ( R . . 3931-3932 . ) The next day [ August 9th ] they spent a good deal . of time collecting fossils near Kane Creek Dorne and made only eleven miles , although he does not recall ( -any any ) great trouble . August 10th they went the balance of the way up ( -to to ) Moab and had a great deal of trouble , striking . . shallow water repeatedly , but were able to push off . . |
