Description Testimony given before special master Charles Warren in a suit brought by the United States against the state of Utah over ownership of the bed of the Colorado River. Much of the testimony was given by river runners, scientists and engineers, petroleum geologists, and placer miners. The testimony constitutes an extensive oral history of the men and women who utilized the Colorado River Basin in Utah prior to 1929.

OCR Text One or two parties came 919 up the Colorado as far as ( Hite I-lite Ilite ) in small boats . 1 man ( named nained ) Mendenhall , who said ( he lie ) ( had liad ) ( come conie ) ( from frorn ) Bluff down the San Juan , took a boat up , but ( he lie ) ( didn't didnt ) take it away from Hite , as it was worn out . ( R . 3635 . ) Redirect ( examination examiiiation ) ( R . Vol . 20 , pp . 3639- 3645 ) : He was last at Hite in the spring of 1915 . At that , ( time tinie ) there were only a few men there doing some work , ( including includina ) Frank Orr , Bert Seaboldt , and Mr . Shaw . When ( he lie ) made the round trip to Lees Ferry , ( Jeremiah Jeremiali ) Johnson was with ( him hini ) when ( he be ) came back , and they had four or five boats ; he ( doesn't doesnt ) remember exactly . ( R . 3639 . ) There were thirteen men in the party . This trip was in ( December Deceinber ) , 1898 . One trip that he made to Lees Ferry and came back overland was in 1909 and 1910 , when he was ( accom accom- accom ) panied by a man named Turner ( , . ) In going ( dowa down ) the river , he used a very good boat that was given to him by Mr . Stone , who stopped at Hite after coming down the river from Greenriver , ( Wyoming 117yorning ) . ( R . 3640 . ) Another trip was ( made inade ) , he thinks , in 1905 , with Fritz von ( Wyschuhn IvAryschuhn ) , using boats that were shipped in from San Francisco ; very much the same type of boats as the other keel bottom ( boats boqts ) . Mr . Wyschuhn , . at that time , was relocating the ( -property property ) of Mr . Spencer ( at A ) Lees Ferry , after having had wonderful reports of his operations there .
