Description |
Testimony given before special master Charles Warren in a suit brought by the United States against the state of Utah over ownership of the bed of the Colorado River. Much of the testimony was given by river runners, scientists and engineers, petroleum geologists, and placer miners. The testimony constitutes an extensive oral history of the men and women who utilized the Colorado River Basin in Utah prior to 1929. |

Show rise precipitously from the 993 stream . The land im - mediately adjacent to the river was sandy but a short distance back became rocky and in some cases solid rock but with more or less a gentle slope of possibly fifteen per cent ; it was dissected by a ( num- num ) ber of shallow hollows , some being thirty or forty feet deep . There were no cultivated lands and no people there at all . ( R . 3870-3872 . ) [ It is stipulated that his testimony as to what ( hap- hap ) pened on this trip down the river in reference to operation of boats , etc . , would be the same as that of Mr . Loper and Mr . Blake . ] ( R . 3872 . ) He also made a trip on the Green ( Eiver River ) between Green ( Eiver River ) , Wyoming , and Greenriver , Utah . ( R . 3872 . ) The map sheet 46 of * Compl . Exh . No . 10 was ( pre- pre ) pared by ( him Ern ) from surveys and other maps made by the Reclamation Service . He has checked the map as to elevation in order to tie his work into it . The same is true as to sheets 44 and 45 , sheet 44 being prepared in the ( same sarae ) manner as were the maps on the San Juan , and the data shown on the map was observed by him at the time the map was made . Sheet 43 is the same as No . 46 for the Reclamation Service . ( R . 3873 . ) Sheet 42 represents his surveys , inking , and compilation . Sheet 41 was partly prepared by him and partly by Mr . Cornelius Schnurr of the ( Geologi Geologi- Geologi ) ¬ cal Survey in 1914 . Sheet 40 was prepared by Schnurr and elevations checked by him [ Trimble ] . |
