Description |
Testimony given before special master Charles Warren in a suit brought by the United States against the state of Utah over ownership of the bed of the Colorado River. Much of the testimony was given by river runners, scientists and engineers, petroleum geologists, and placer miners. The testimony constitutes an extensive oral history of the men and women who utilized the Colorado River Basin in Utah prior to 1929. |

( R . 4747 . ) The Marguerite would ( start -start start ) from Greenriver and return to that place and the catamaran scows were left at ( his hi's his ) ranch when ( he be ) came back up the river . There is a fine traction engine road that was built for the manganese claims years ago . It was built before he bought the ranch and comes from ( Ploy Floy ) , Utah , to the Riverside Camp and he hauled the coal from ( Ploy Floy ) , a station on the Rio Grande ( Rail- Rail ) road that is sixteen miles from his ranch . It would ( "be be -be be ) stored there for a while and then the boys would pick it up . ( R . 4748-4749 . ) He hauled down a railroad car of coal , but ( doesn't doesnt ) remember what size car and ( couldn't couldnt ) say ( whether -whether whether ) it was less than thirty ( ions -tons tons ) or not . ( R . 4749 . He believes there was one round trip made down ( -to to ) the government party without a load of coal or ( supplies -supplies supplies ) . He believes his son took Mr . Richardson on one trip on the Marguerite and at another time when , ( they -they they ) did not take loads he went part of the way down to get a party coming back . While he was operating the Marguerite on the river he made other trips from Greenriver down ( "below below -below below ) his ranch but not clear to the junction .
