Description |
Testimony given before special master Charles Warren in a suit brought by the United States against the state of Utah over ownership of the bed of the Colorado River. Much of the testimony was given by river runners, scientists and engineers, petroleum geologists, and placer miners. The testimony constitutes an extensive oral history of the men and women who utilized the Colorado River Basin in Utah prior to 1929. |

Wheeler ranch , the Wimmer 1083 ranch now , and then , have the Wheeler ( boys-they boysthey ) were ( cattlemen-go cattlemengo ) to Greenriver and bring the stuff down , or he might send word for them to bring it down , and have it ready for him ; very few trips ( he lie ) made from the ( Wim Wim- Wim ) mer ranch to Greenriver in a boat . ( R . 4274 . ) She made one trip while she was living at ( Valen Valen- Valen ) ( tine's tines ) Bottom ; in a rowboat with her brother up to Greenriver . She made two trips in 1894 and she believes ( a -a a ) trip in 1896 , one of the trips being on the Paddy Ross . One of the trips was from Greenriver , Utah , to the mouth of the river and the other from ( Wimmer's Wimmers Wimm'er's Wimmers ) Ranch to ( Turk's Turks ) Point , a little below ( Valentine's Valentines ) Bottom . The trip she made down to the mouth of the river was on the Paddy Ross and she believes in 1896 . Most of the trips she made down were with her husband . After she came away from ( Valentine's Valentines ) Bottom she lived there most of the time since 1915 . ( R . 4274-4275 . ) She heard the testimony of her husband and to her recollection the conditions were substantially as testified to by him . During the time she lived at Greenriver , Utah , she never knew of boats being engaged in ( transporting tiansporting ) freight or passengers on the river .
