Description |
Testimony given before special master Charles Warren in a suit brought by the United States against the state of Utah over ownership of the bed of the Colorado River. Much of the testimony was given by river runners, scientists and engineers, petroleum geologists, and placer miners. The testimony constitutes an extensive oral history of the men and women who utilized the Colorado River Basin in Utah prior to 1929. |

Show She took a trip in a motor 1235 boat on the ( Colorado Colorado- Colorado ) River in the spring of 1925 ( on oil ) the Moab Garage large boat . She went down to Shafer No . 1 Well and returned without experiencing any difficulties going up or down the river on that occasion . The boat was not stalled at any place . In the fall of the same year she made a trip to the same place in a ( small sniall ) . motor boat . ( R . 4865- 4866 . ) On this trip she went with her uncle , ( Mr Afr ) . Taylor , ( Mr Afr ) . Harvey Lytell , and Louise Goodman . Her uncle was about ( twenty-two twentytwo ) or ( twenty-three twentythree ) years old . She had never operated a motor boat before this trip . The other young lady of the party , Louise Goodman , and her uncle , who was on his ( va- va ) cation from the University of ( Michigan INEchigall ) , were going to school . The other young man ( was ilas ) a driller at Shafer No . ( 1 I ) Well . ( Mr Alr ) . Lytell had made one ( trip tTip ) in the same boat . ( R . 4867 . ) She ( doesn't doesnt ) know this of her own knowledge ; he just told her . On this trip they - went down the ( river idver ) , she believes , fourteen miles , to the Shafer No . 1 Well . There were ( 110 no ) others in the party except those ( named nained ) . TAIr . Lytell piloted the boat down except for about two miles when she piloted it . Her uncle piloted the boat back . ( R 4867-4869 . ) They did not encounter any difficulty on that trip , did not strike any sand bars and did not have to get out of the boat and do any wading . None of the party had to get out and she has no recollection of ( any- any ) |
