( R . 4213 . ) Stillwater Canyon is practically the same as ( Laby Laby- Laby ) , rinth Canyon . They had frequent ( groundings grcundings ) in both ( canyons eanyons ) . ( R . 4213 . ) . They started out ( with vith ) about a ton of coal , but it did not last long and they used wood after that . They did not carry more coal because they did not want to be loaded too deep . As he recalls , the engine was a ( twenty-two twentytwo ) horsepower , ( two-cylinder twocylinder ) , engine ( R . 4213-4214 ) , with two propellers . ( R . 4222 . ) The purpose of that trip was that Mr . Frank Summerall , from Denver , was trying to establish a sort of health resort , sanatorium , down at the head of Cataract Canyon , and he wanted to put this boat on in order to carry the people in and out to that sanatorium . ( R . 4214 . ) The destination of the trip was to ( have'been havebeen ) the head of Cataract Canyon . In going down they did not have any difficulty with the current of the river except at times they would strike sand bars , then the current ( would wculd ) bother quite a bit , because it would turn the boat around sideways . That happened very quick . ( R . 4214 . ) In going down if the water looked very shallow soundings were made very often with a stick ; ( some some- some ) times a man would be sent out with a rowboat where the water looked very doubtful , to hunt the channel |
